Sustanability

At East AfricaCamps, sustainable tourism is not just a concept – it’s our purpose and the heartbeat of everything we do. From the beginning, sustainability has guided every step of our journey. Our unique way of traveling positions us as one of the few hotel group truly committed to genuine sustainable tourism, where every experience is a chance to make a real impact.

We believe that responsible tourism is the only way forward – one that respects local communities, protects ecosystems, and creates meaningful connections between travelers and the natural world. By choosing sustainable tourism with East Africa Camps your journey becomes a part of something bigger – a model of travel that leaves a positive footprint on the land, people, and wildlife of East Africa.

Our Project – Quality Healthcare for Tanzania

Our most ambitious goal is to provide the people of Tanzania with access to healthcare that is not only high-quality, but also sustainable and long-lasting.

Speaking of healthcare in Africa may seem ambitious—but step by step, we are already making it a reality. We have successfully carried out our first surgical campaign with the support of Spanish volunteer doctors at the Endulen Hospital, located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, in partnership with the Recover Foundation.

During this campaign, we equipped the hospital with essential medical supplies and trained local staff in how to use them effectively. In just one week, the medical team treated over 200 patients and performed 37 surgical procedures. This is only the beginning. At East Africa Camps, we believe that responsible tourism should go hand in hand with social progress—and our commitment to sustainable healthcare in Tanzania is a key part of that vision.

A Powerful Act of Responsible and Sustainable Tourism: Restoring Sight in Tanzania

In a powerful demonstration of responsible and sustainable tourism, East Africa Camps has led an unprecedented humanitarian initiative in Tanzania.

In April 2025, in collaboration with the Elena Barraquer Foundation and the Government of Tanzania, a team of international medical volunteers successfully performed 300 cataract surgeries—completely free of charge—for underprivileged patients at Meru District Hospital, located in the city of Arusha.

This remarkable collaboration brought together more than 10 healthcare professionals, led by the prestigious Dr. Elena Barraquer, globally recognized for her outstanding work in ophthalmology. Alongside her, other leading experts and field volunteers from Spain, Germany, Chile, Argentina, and Italy joined forces with a shared mission: to fight preventable blindness caused by cataracts.

Solidarity tourism with real impact

This initiative was made possible by East Africa Camps hotel group in Tanzania. The group reaffirmed its deep commitment to the communities where it operates by fully funding and coordinating the entire expedition.

East Africa Camps played a crucial operational role by coordinating and providing all logistical support on the ground. Throughout the week, our team managed the transport of patients from various remote regions, some located as far as 350 kilometers away, including the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara—areas known not only for their world-famous national parks, but also for their limited access to healthcare services.

This initiative is a clear example of how sustainable tourism with East Africa Camps goes beyond travel. It’s a long-term commitment to social impact, sustainability, and responsible tourism, ensuring that the benefits of travel reach the people who need it most.
